Ghana's Holy Dorgbetor Records Coruscant Victory Over Ukrainian Solomennikov.
It was an exciting matchup of styles, guts and ambition; the subtle but dangerous Eastern European style juxtaposing the intelligently aggressive African brawl - two undefeated combatants pitched their strength against each other on the protuberant stage of the WBC Grand Prix Tournament in Riyadh.
Solomennikov entered the fray with a 16-0 record, superlatively certain of clinching yet another victory. But Dorgbetor, was unflinching, unrelenting and undaunted - from the opening bell current IBF Africa Featherweight champion marched forward with persistent jabs and hard combinations.
The Ukrainian did land very crushing blows and looked sleek and sharp doing so; just lacked that finishing potency and firepower.
The "Jaw Breaker", as Holy is called, showed true grit : in round five, a stunning right hand put him off balance, but he came right back and delivered his own onslaught.
At the culmination of the six round affair, it was the Volta Region native, from Ghana, who secured the split decision in the round 32 stage.
In the post-fight, Dorgbetor, now 14-0-1, was excited and thankful to God, his management and promotional team: ACE Power Boxing, and the WBC for the opportunity.
He praised Solomennikov for bringing forth a good challenge but promised to return even more voracious as the competition is about to get hotter.
Boxing lovers across the West African nation of Ghana are laden with joy over Dorgbetor's win, and see in him a bona-fide world title prospect.
