Ghana's Holy Dorgbetor Faces Oleksandr Solomennikov Of Ukraine In WBC Grand Prix Tournament.
IBF Africa Featherweight title holder Holy Dorgbetor 14( 13 -0-1) 8Kos, comes up against Oleksandr Solomennikov from Ukraine:16-0, 8kos in a Featherweight contest over 6 rounds.
The bout features on the round 32 stage of the WBC Grand Prix Tournament at the Global Theater Boulevard, Riyadh City on Thursday April 17.
Dorgbetor, also known as the " Jaw Breaker " is coming off a huge win against countryman Patrick Aryee at the Bukom Park in Accra on March 28th this year, where he successfully defended his IBF Continental strap. But he comes up against perhaps the toughest test in his career, squaring up versus the undefeated Ukrainian - born in Deliatyn, Ukraine but currently residing in Ivano-Frankivsk also in Ukraine.
The 26-year-old Solomennikov who debuted in February 2020 has a 50% knockout percentage and should not pose much problems for Holy, who is known for having a solid chin and an inexhaustible tank.
Dorgbetor, managed by ACE Power Boxing Promotions and training at The Gym, Accra by coach Emmanuel Laryea, has held the Ghana National and UBO titles.
He has garnered wins over the likes of Emmanuel Mankattah Sackey, Success Tetteh(10-2), Emmanuel Quartey(25-3), Aliou Clement Loko(9-0-1), Hamadi Furahisha( 8-1-1) and recently Patrick Aryee (23-2-3).
The Ghanaian, therefore boasts a better resumè compared to his European counterpart whose best win was over a 19-6-1 Maikol Beaumont at the Casino Estorii, last year November.
Dorgbetor hails from the Volta Region of Ghana just like former WBO World champion Isaac Dogboe and was once his sparring partner.
A win tomorrow, affirms Dorgbetor's status as a genuine world title prospect and one that can be relied upon to end the West African nation's world title drought.
Boxing fans across Ghana are in tense anticipation with bated breath, awaiting refreshing news from the desert dunes of Saudi Arabia.
Plaudits of course, to Mauricio Sulaiman for such an audacious innovation.
May the best man emerge tops.
